WHO Calls Us “Irresponsible”?

by Steve on 25, January, 2010

The World Health Organization (aka WHO) is getting really annoyed at all of the people questioning them.  It seems this H1N1 “flu pandemic” fizzled out so much faster than all the hype around it that some folks are starting to ask questions … namely why all the hype?
An answer being suggessted, to the WHO’s obvious [...]

This seems like a story from the Department of Made Up Afflictions but since I’m dedicated to keeping you informed and this is a real story (Google reports over 73 news stories about it this morning), here goes ….
Exotic wooden toilet seats and harsh chemical cleaners may be behind a new resurgence of toilet seat dermatitis, [...]

Love & Logic and Hot Stoves

by Steve on 23, January, 2010

We had the great pleasure of interviewing Dr. Charles Fay from the Love and Logic Institute this past weekend.  The full interview was longer than what we were able to air on Sunday so we’ve included the full interview above for your listening (and hopefully learning) pleasure.
What is the Love and Logic approach to raising [...]

Interesting graph that shows …. well, here check it out for yourself.
Where are all the students going?
Nobody’s probably surprised that Detroit lost so many students.
What may be a bit more surprising is that the region itself lost roughly 15,000 students.

Tech To The Rescue

by Steve on 20, January, 2010

You can see the commercials now …… stuck in the rubble? There’s an app for that …. literally.
This guy’s iPhone saved his life in the Haiti earthquake but not the way you’d expect.
There’s also a touching moment in the video when he discusses part of what was going through his mind as he was trapped.
iPhone App [...]

This is one of the reasons that I didn’t like the idea of vaccines being given in the schools.   It leaves the door wide open for mistakes due to folks not being familiar, or being overwhelmed, with the job that they’re trying to accomplish.
It’s also a prime example of why as a parent you [...]

Own Your Happiness …

by Steve on 19, January, 2010

Excellent excerpt from a talk that Olympian Jonny Moseley gave at Berkeley :
My friends, today the experts give you your diploma. I’m not telling you to go for fourth place, but I encourage you to be free in the way you measure your success. I don’t claim to know what it will be like to [...]

Amazing story.
I’ve honestly always figured this was a smoke and mirrors kind of thing but evidently I was wrong.
The thought, practice, planning and strategizing that went into his 17 MINUTE BREATH HOLDING RECORD is fascinating.  It’s also a great reminder that :

With proper training, planning, sacrifice and a squared away mindset impossible feats becoming stunningly [...]

Ahhh, the good old days.  When you could take the family to a movie and not have to worry about it warping the minds of your little children or offending the senses of the adults.
A friend and I were just talking last night about how hard it is trying to let our kids enjoy the [...]

The Story Of The Pencil

by Steve on 13, January, 2010

I found this story while exploring the site of Kevin Carroll’s site Katalyst (author of Rules of the Red Rubber Ball: Find and Sustain Your Life’s Work ).  I thought it was a nice story, worth sharing and was even more plesantly surprised when I realized it was from author Paul Coelho ( author [...]

Epicurious.com is a great website with lots of great tools, recipes and articles.  This week I ran across their “Seasonal Ingredient Map” that show what fruits and vegetables are in season at what time of year broken out by month and state.  Cool tool that makes eating (and serving your family) the healthiest, freshest foods [...]

Okay, besides you have a family and the show is on early Sunday mornings.
