No Long Term Benefit To Delaying Vaccines, Study Finds

Hmmmm, what’s this….. a study looking at the effects of vaccines? That’s an interesting finding …..

They report in the June issue of the journal Pediatrics that children who were vaccinated following the recommended immunization schedule exhibited better verbal skills, had higher IQs and were less likely to stutter than children who received vaccines on a delayed schedule.

Wow, kids that were vaccinated according to schedule did better than the kids that weren’t vaccinated or received delayed vaccinations. Maybe vaccines are not only not risky for kids maybe they’re HEALTHY.

Meanwhile children who did not receive vaccines on time performed no better than children who did on any of the tests which looked at speech, fine motor skills, executive-functioning and behavior, among other skills.

Well, if they’re not healthy maybe at the very least they don’t make a difference.

“The lack of any statistically significant results that favored delayed receipt of vaccines in the first year of life sends a clear public health message that should be comforting to many parents with vaccine safety concerns: children can receive their immunizations on time and expect to have the same neurodevelopmental outcomes as children with any other pattern of vaccine receipt,” the study authors write in their findings appearing online ahead of publication in Pediatrics.

Yup, sure enough that’s what they discovered too. Well, that certainly will be a relief to a lot of nervous parents out there …. I better head to the computer and start spreading the word:

“Not only are vaccines not dangerous they might make you smarter!”

Wait a minute ….. what’s this?

Children who were not immunized on schedule typically came from lower income households and were more likely to have mothers who did not have college degrees, the study indicates, which could be one reason for the lower performance of kids in this group.

Ooops, the kids that didn’t get vaccinated and didn’t beat the other kids in the tests (or did worse) also (coincidence I guess?) were from:

Poorer
Less educated families

Now, as we all know poorer children from less educated families generally have access to the same health care, prenatal care, pre-school care, educational assistance, etc. that rich educated families get right?

And as a result they do just as well in all those academic and neurological tests right?

What…..that’s wrong?

Oh yeah!

Kids from poorer, less educated families generally do WORSE on these tests and these areas.

Soooooo, if you want to say that poorer, unvaccinated kids from lesser educated families didn’t do better than richer, better educated, vaccinated children that might be just a TAD bit more accurate.

So let’s look at this and see if it makes sense:

You do a research study.
You stack the deck on one side with children that statistically are going to do worse …. regardless of any other factors.
Coincidentally, this stacked population also happens to be the group that is your test group which you’re hoping will perform poorly (or at least not better) than your other, non-stacked group.
You do your research.
“SURPRISE” these stacked results prove that the kids that you’d expect to not perform as well (poorer, less educated, etc.) didn’t perform as well.
Conclusion: Vaccines are safe.

Sound like perfectly good science to me – how about you?

So that brings up a couple of questions?

Why stack the deck in a “research” project?
Why not have similar populations on both sides with the difference being the item you’re testing for (in this case their vaccine status)?

Wasn’t that how you were taught to do experiments in 3rd Grade?

Another interesting point – the study was also done on children between the ages of 7-10 years of age. That’s significant because by then children that might have had negative neurological reactions would have already been identified and received their special “classifications” and “labels”.

I’m wondering how many children studied were children believed (or proven) to be DAMAGED by vaccines?
I wonder how many of these children were in Special Education programs?

See those would be important things to consider if you’re going to be drawing big grand conclusions about vaccines. If you’re going to say they’re safe and the vaccines made no difference ….. you want to make sure you’re not excluding the kids where vaccines either made – or may have made – a difference.

Wanna make a little wager there weren’t any of those kids in this study?

Which is what makes this Pseudo Pop Science so frustrating.

We trust science to help us protect, guide, educate and direct our children and our decisions. Yet time and time again we’re led down a twisted path with marketing and propaganda in a white scientist/researcher lab coat.

We need real research. We need real science. We need real answers.

I’m disappointed because this kind of research is DESPERATELY needed and for some reason few people out there are willing to do real, unbiased research. Which always makes me wonder :

Are they not doing it because they’re afraid of what they might find in a true, unbiased, scientific, representative population study?

- or -

Do they know what they want before they start and they just need to wait to get the “right” results that “prove” they were correct all along?

- or -

Are they just sloppy and don’t care if it’s slanted?

I don’t know which answer is better but the simple fact that one of them is true … keeps me awake at night.

MGK Radio: Mary Tocco & The Vaccine Safety Debate

We shared the air with health care advocate and Vaccine expert Mary Tocco on April 18th and Mary shared with us a TON of useful information, stats, facts and figures about the US Vaccine program.

I know this is one of those lightning rod topics. It seems the whole world is either pro-vaccine or anti-vaccine and regardless of what side you’re on you have to despise the other side. Every time we discuss vaccines we get nasty responses from folks and even lose followers or sponsors. So why cover this topic if it’s so unpopular?

We want parents to be making informed, educated, well-rounded decisions.

The government and pharmaceutical companies are very strongly pro-vaccine. The government and the pharmaceutical companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars marketing vaccines to us to insure that we get the vaccines they want us to have, when they want us to get them with the assumption that they’re perfectly safe. The pharmaceutical companies and the politicians also reap billions of dollars off these vaccines.

This isn’t a conspiracy theory thing, it’s the simple truth. The latest vaccine in the pipeline for children is the HPV Vaccine which was just approved for little boys. Last year the vaccine – previously approved just for girls – made more than $1.4 billion dollars in revenue. The Vaccine industry is a big dollar, big stakes industry and they work hard to grow their business and their profits.

From a basic moral standpoint I agree with that approach and don’t think there’s anything wrong with that in a capitalist society. Actually, in a capitalist society that should be the goal of ALL businesses.

The problem I have with the vaccine industry is that we’re talking about injecting toxic substances and viruses into our bodies and that does pose very real health and safety risks. Unfortunately, you can’t make as much money or have a successful vaccine campaign if you highlight, or even seriously acknowledge, the dangers and risks.

That’s why the doctors, governments and pharmaceutical companies don’t tell us the FULL story about vaccines.

Oh, they may throw out a couple of mild reactions that your child might have but nothing serious ….. and even then they downplay the chances of it actually happening to YOUR child.

We’ve worked with children that have been hurt by vaccines and because of that we feel it’s important to share as much information with families as we possibly can so they can:

Make intelligent, informed decisions for their own children
Understand the reasons why other parents might choose not to vaccinate their children

We don’t have to all agree on this topic but I would hope that we could at least all agree that listening to both side, regardless of your opinion, with an OPEN mind searching out the FACTS is the right approach.

Medical facts are not a game of consensus. One thousands experts saying something is safe doesn’t make it safe any more than one thousand experts saying something is dangerous makes it dangerous. The facts should stand on their own. If the facts don’t stand on their own then you need more facts. Our goal is to help share with you facts, stats, figures and information that you might not otherwise be privy to.

Personally, we don’t vaccinate our son.

Personally, we do feel that vaccines did play a pretty significant role in some of the challenges that he encountered.

While that might make us “anti-vaccine” for him, we are not “anti-vaccine” for your family.

We are “pro” informed decision for your family though, which is why – despite the opposition and nasty responses sometimes – we discuss vaccines.

If you disagree with our approach or our guests please feel free to comment. All that I ask is that you first listen to what is said and presented to see if there might be something new in the “details” that you weren’t aware of before and THEN comment.

Mary Tocco has spent years researching vaccines and has formed some pretty strong opinions. The thing I like about Mary though is that she bases her opinions on facts – numbers – statistics and not just emotions or opinions. I’ve watched Mary on more than one occasion take apart the argument posed by a doctor or “expert” on vaccines and then run them in circles until they had to concede that she did have a point. I hope you enjoy this interview.

Vaccine Makers & Government vs. Parents?

The Supreme Court has decided to take a case of two parents who are suing Wyeth (now Pfizer) for damage they claim their child suffered as a result of a DTP vaccine.

I don’t know the specifics of the case and am not going to take a side on this case because that’s not the point of this post.

My question is this…

Why should a company have immunity to hurt it’s customers?

Why would the government take the side of a company against it’s citizens?

There are a couple of quotes from the articles about this case that really jumped out at me:

The Obama administration joined the parties in calling for high court review, although the government takes the side of the manufacturers.

and this part

The idea behind the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act was to ensure a stable supply of childhood vaccines by shielding drug makers from most lawsuits, and setting up a federal vaccine court to handle disputes. The law would serve to block state laws that otherwise would give families the ability to sue the manufacturers.

and this

In this appeal, however, Congress clearly laid out how claims over vaccines were to be made, and the court has repeatedly ruled against plaintiffs when Congress has explicitly sought to bar lawsuits.

The government takes the sides of the manufacturers – they shield drug makers from lawsuits – they block state’s from passing laws or coming to different conclusions – they work to block lawsuits…… is this America?

Pharmaceutical companies are the ninth largest contributors to Congress (at least officially) and Health Professionals are the second, Hospitals are the 18th largest lobbyist group. Those three Health Industry groups dwarf spending by any other groups including unions, defense and even the dreaded financial industry. Contributions to just five Congressional representatives (Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Max Baucus, Mitch McConnell and Arlen Specter) amounted to almost $1 million dollars last year.

Is it right that Congress should be able to pass laws protecting folks that give them that much money from the rest of us?

Toyota is currently getting drilled by Congress and facing lawsuits that will ultimately cost it tens of billions of dollars. These dire consequences are causing it to move quickly to try to get things changed. If the auto manufacturers got together and decided that they wouldn’t make any cars without immunity …. and then received it from Congress would they be as concerned with fixing life threatening mistakes?

The government’s role is to protect the citizens.

The government’s role is not to protect corporations FROM citizens.

I’ve heard the argument that without these protections the drug companies would be too afraid to make, market and sell their vaccines.

We heard that same argument last year with the Swine Flu scare remember? We were also told that drug companies don’t make a profit on vaccines, remember? So without those protections they would be putting themselves at risk with no real upside for them, remember?

We now know that those claims were all empty. The reality was that the vaccine manufacturers profited nicely and had banner years .. ..

Drug companies have sold $1.5 billion worth of swine flu shots, in addition to the $1 billion for seasonal flu they booked earlier this year. These inoculations are part of a much wider and rapidly growing $20 billion global vaccine market.

“The vaccine market is booming,” says Bruce Carlson, spokesperson at market research firm Kalorama, which publishes an annual survey of the vaccine industry. “It’s an enormous growth area for pharmaceuticals at a time when other areas are not doing so well,” he says, noting that the pipeline for more traditional blockbuster drugs such as Lipitor and Nexium has thinned.

Pfizer’s profits for ’09 – $22.9 billion dollars.
Sanofi-Aventis profits for ’09 – $31.5 billion dollars (converted from euros)
Merck profits for ’09 – $18.5 billion dollars
GlaxoSmithKlein profits for ’09 – $32 billion dollars (converted from British pound)

I’m not arguing these companies shouldn’t make a profit. I think they should. I want them to be profitable and successful.

BUT, with profits like that do we need to protect them against a family with a sick girl in Pittsburgh?

Unless we give them the ability to potentially hurt, maim and kill us with no punishment and full immunity they won’t make vaccines?

Does that even make sense?

Do we WANT vaccines that the companies are not sure will be safe? What other product would we willingly buy where it’s manufacturer would not only not stand behind it but not even stand behind it not KILLING YOU.

If this is a public health issue why don’t we also give them immunity not just for their vaccines but ALL of their drugs (heart, diabetes, AIDS, flu, depression, etc.)? Why don’t we just determine that if a product is made that is potentially life saving, we’ll give the manufacturers immunity?

What about doctors? They have to pay astronomical fees for their insurance. Why don’t we protect them? Why don’t they get full immunity? (Hint: This is not a recommendation for the current Health care bill.)

Recently here in Michigan, a doctor performed brain surgery on the wrong side of a patient’s brain and the patient died (I thought this was rare but when I Googled it for a reference I found another story about the same thing happening in Rhode Island). Those doctors and hospitals are getting sued and rightly so. They made a mistake that killed a person ….. not intentionally but that’s small consolation to their families. Both hospitals have put new procedures in place to keep something like that from happening again (seems like they would have done that earlier but I digress).

What if the judge in those cases came out and said – “We need brain surgeons. They have a tough job. I don’t want to scare other doctors from wanting to operate so I’ve given this doctor immunity and am dropping all charges”

(Can you imagine the uproar that this would cause? Even more if you found out that doctor contributed money to the judge for his re-election?)

That wouldn’t make much sense and neither does the current law with vaccines.

Essentially the government – OUR government – has told a group of companies the they want a product so badly that they’ll give them the opportunity to kill or damage people…..as long as it doesn’t happen TOO often.

Then the government pushes those vaccines extremely hard through doctors, schools, Sesame Street commercials, public service announcement, etc. and then if a child gets hurt?

Well, then you don’t have access to the courts or a jury of citizens, no, instead we have to go to a special court run by the government …..

the same group pushing the vaccines
the same group with vested interest in maintaining their reputation as being safe
the same group that gave immunity to the manufacturer’s

Does that sound like democracy? Does that sound like justice?

Company making billions of dollars in profits + Government protectors vs. Parents w/ a sick child ….. is there any degree of logic or justice there?

I realize that with all of the uproar and controversy about vaccines and Autism many folks have simply been worn out trying to figure out what’s truth and what’s spin. But this debate isn’t about Autism. The child who has prompted this suit developed a seizure disorder after her shots ….. but it’s really not even about her.

The law as it currently stands says that if you, or your child, is damaged, maimed or killed by a vaccine – even if you can prove negligence and irresponsibility by the manufacturer of that vaccine – you CANNOT sue them and if you try to YOUR government will stop you, it reminds me of the quote from Thomas Jefferson:

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

With laws like this one in place, who is in the position of power and who is in the position to fear?

The case is – Bruesewitz v. Wyeth and will be in front of the Supreme Court this fall. As parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles we should all take an interest in this case.

FYI – As an interesting sideline story …. Chief Justice John Roberts, as recently as last year, owned $15,000 dollars in Pfizer stock though it’s reported that he took no part in the consideration of this case coming in front of the Supreme Court.

WHO Calls Us “Irresponsible”?

The World Health Organization (aka WHO) is getting really annoyed at all of the people questioning them. It seems this H1N1 “flu pandemic” fizzled out so much faster than all the hype around it that some folks are starting to ask questions … namely why all the hype?

An answer being suggessted, to the WHO’s obvious annoyance, sounds a lot like money and smells a lot like cash. According to an AP News story released today :

The World Health Organization on Monday slammed as “irresponsible” critics who claim swine flu is a fake pandemic created for the benefit of drug companies.

I don’t think they were talking about me personally but as one who as been critical both here and on the radio show (and claimed that this latest pandemic silliness and pushing people to take a vaccine that while profitable, is not necessarily safe, seemed quite forced and not based on reason) I kind of took it personally all the same.

So I think folks like them are being dishonest and scaremongering and they think folks like me are irresponsible.

OKAY ….let’s look at the facts and see what we can figure out …….

WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl said the relatively low number of confirmed deaths from swine flu didn’t mean the virus wasn’t a pandemic.

“A pandemic has nothing to do with severity or number of deaths,” he told The Associated Press. “A pandemic literally is a global spread of a disease.”

Mr. Hartl is correct that a certain number of deaths are not required to qualify as a pandemic ……. but only because they removed that part of the definition last year. Before their “change”, the definition actually read :

An influenza pandemic occurs when a new influenza virus appears against which the human population has no immunity, resulting in several, simultaneous epidemics worldwide with enormous numbers of deaths and illness. With the increase in global transport and communications, as well as urbanization and overcrowded conditions, epidemics due the new influenza virus are likely to quickly take hold around the world.

Who says that was the old definition of pandemic ? Exactly, the WHO said it was (sorry, I couldn’t help it) … this snippet is from their own website .

But don’t just take my word for it ….. here’s a list of stories detailing the change of definition:

Fact #1 – Settled – It is a pandemic. They should know they changed the definition of pandemic so it qualified.

So, was a lot of money made because of it?

Of course not! We can all answer in unison because we’ve been told many times in the news that Big Pharma doesn’t make money on vaccines. Right?

Ooops, evidently these vaccines ARE money makers ……

Drugmakers pocket most of the revenues from flu sales, with Sanofi-Pasteur, Glaxo Smith Klineand Novartis cornering most of the market.

Fact #2 – Settled – Billions of additional dollars were made by a small number of pharmaceutical companies thanks to the newly declared PANDEMIC which caused citizens, doctors and governments alike to shell out for vaccines that were hurriedly rushed to the market.

No wonder the WHO is getting so touchy. It’s doesn’t take a genius to look at the facts and at least WONDER a bit.

But STILL it’s not like the WHO would be thinking about that when they’re making their decisions, right?

This excerpt is literally the third sentence down from when she announces …

The world is now at the start of the 2009 influenza pandemic.

Well, forget about that argument concerning not thinking about $$$ when making the decision I guess.

Fact #3 – Settled – The WHO knew and was happy/relieved/thinking about the fact that many interests would know be able to reap the benefits from the newly defined PANDEMIC.

Oddly enough, it’s now these people who are running around calling OTHER people “irresponsible”

The fact is that this pandemic was a hoax that made certain people and their special interests BILLIONS of dollars paid largely by tax payers. This isn’t an empty accusation it’s a material FACT which is easily proven when you look at the facts.

As Americans, we’re used to being fleeced by politicians and their special interests and while that is a very real and dangerous problem that’s not my central fear in this instance.

My larger concern is that like the boy who cries “Wolf” in the classic tale, the powers that be will one day face a REAL health PANDEMIC which needs to be taken seriously.

Then, when they come rushing down the hill screaming for our attention to a real crisis it will fall on ears made deaf by years of self-indulgent, self-serving, dishonest, manufactured “false alarms.”

That is what is truly reprehensible and ………. irresponsible.

Ooops! Nurse Confuses Insulin & H1N1 Vax

This is one of the reasons that I didn’t like the idea of vaccines being given in the schools. It leaves the door wide open for mistakes due to folks not being familiar, or being overwhelmed, with the job that they’re trying to accomplish.

It’s also a prime example of why as a parent you have to triple check the medicines, treatments, advice that you’re getting from the experts (whether your doctor or the school nurse).

My Great Kid Radio – David Kirby & The Autism Increase

He was also a foreign correspondent in Mexico and Central America from 1986-1990, where he covered the wars in El Salvador and Nicaragua, and covered politics, corruption and natural disasters in Mexico. From Latin America, he reported for UPI, the San Francisco Examiner, Newsday, The Arizona Republic, Houston Chronicle and the NBC Radio Network.
Kirby also worked in politics, medical research and public relations.
