An eight year old with dyslexia goes to school day after day and gets bullied.
Bullying classmates call him stupid, dumb, pick on him …. you know the drill.
One day they pull down his pants in public.
Eight year old has had enough and jumps out the window of the second floor.
8 YEARS OLD AND HE’S BULLIED TO THE POINT OF JUMPING OUT A WINDOW.
Take a second to let that soak in. It’s not that it’s unique. Kids get bullied and kids commit suicide.
But this kid is 8 years old and jumps out the window at school.
What would you do?
What should the school have done?
Fortunately for everyone the kid survived with some bumps, bruises and some minor cuts (tough kid).
School doesn’t call an ambulance – you’d think they would – but they take him to the school nurse ……. where they have him sign a “no suicide contract”.
HE’S 8 YEARS OLD.
HE’S GETTING BRUTALLY BULLIED.
HE JUMPS OUT A WINDOW.
AND THE SCHOOL IMMEDIATELY RESPONDS BY HAVING HIM SIGN A
The Houston Independent School District (HISD) said giving the 8-year-old a no suicide contract was “appropriate.”
“If you’re dealing with a child that’s dyslexic, and you’re dealing with a child, who’s perhaps (needs) special education, learning disability, whatever, that’s where it’s so important to explain to them what’s going on and what’s in this agreement,” said Norm Uhl, a spokesman with HISD.
(Well, thank GOD they had someone explain to him what he was signing otherwise they might have been acting irresponsibly!)
God help us all. What are we doing to our kids?
